DESIGN & BRANDING: getting ready for BlogPodium


If you’re a long die hard fan of this blog (I love you!) please forgive some of this recycled content but I think it’s totally relevant and worth bringing up again. This is specifically about bloggers and blog networking events but really applies to anyone who uses networking in their business or career.
I just came back from a big blog conference and now I’m gearing up for another great one right in my own city. I’m talking about BlogPodium folks. Right here in Toronto in less than 3 months! There are lots of amazing things about BlogPodium and you will learn and be inspired until your head will explode but there are two things that you should care about before you arrive – what you’re going to wear and what your business card looks like. Ok fine, so maybe not in that order and I don’t mean to stress you out about the fashion but it’s a room full of amazing, creative people who definitely appreciate a fab outfit. The reason I bunch them together though is, like your clothes, your business card makes a first impression and a way to express yourself and your blog/business.
Your business card is definitely 10000% something you should think about and have with you at BlogPodium. It’s networking 101 people. Even in the digital age and everyone having an iPhone glued to their hand, business cards still have a function. Not only do they have all your contact & social media info, as well as your website, but it’s the first impression of your brand. When people (um, me) get home from a conference and finally have a chance to look through all the business cards collected, you can bet that the well designed & branded ones get attention first.
For myself, I decided to keep it pretty simple. I have a two sided full colour card with my blog logo on one side and all my contact and social media info on the other. It’s important to include your social media so other companies and potential clients can find you.  There’s also a nice spot varnish on the logo (which you can’t really see in this photo). It’s simple but it’s well designed and stands out in a pile. Feel free to go get more creative and out of the box if it makes sense and not just gimicky. Letterpress is always so impressive and classy and gets lots of “ohhhhhhs” and “ahhhhh” if that’s in your budget.

  1. I couldn’t agree more! A good business card says so much about you and your aesthethic. I’ve just gone through a little blog rebranding and am in need of all new business cards – I’ve been stalking etsy for months trying to find the perfect ones for BlogPodium this year!
