LIFE: Monday Update

mel-camera

I hope you all had a great weekend. I’ve been so busy getting ready for the One of a Kind show kicking off this week and prepping for Merry magazine summer issue that I’ve gotten behind on blog posts so I thought I would just give you a little update for today.

I can’t tell you what a difference the change of season has had on me. I know that it’s really just a date in the calendar but this was kinda a poor winter, weather-wise and personally and I’m happy to kick it to the curb. I became such an introvert this past winter, which is not like me. I craved staying in, cooking, and watching Netflix.

It was not just Netflix that caught my attention though. I must have spent so much time flicking through our cable channels! As you know, I love getting stuck into TV shows and at one stage I actually lost count of how many amazing programs I watched on cable.

On that topic, I read an article the other day that suggested that according to recent statistics, although cable TV is still hugely popular, Netflix is starting to catch up. You can take a look at the source here and make up your mind for yourself. What do you tend to prefer? Netflix or cable? Let me know in the comments.

Anyway, I suppose what I am trying to say is that I spent way too much time by myself and have committed to get back into things this spring. I’m hoping to volunteer for the NXNE music festival and sign up to play dodgeball again. God I love that game.

Not much going on in the romantic dept. Truthfully I’m not feeling that hot about myself these days and we all know that confidence is damn sexy. The plan is to get back into the healthy swing of things and rock those skinny jeans that make me feel like a million bucks.

I’ve been seriously thinking about getting a pet. I’m a huge bird lover and grew up with a very friendly budgie named Skippy. I know I would love to have one around again but I’ve also been thinking about a dog. I don’t know where it came from but it’s just been the sudden desire to get a furry friend. I’ve been doing a lot of research into dogs to make sure I know how to treat them well. And when I say research, I’ve been down a lot of rabbit holes. For example, who remembers white dog poo? Well, I know why it happens now, thanks to my research! I just want to make sure I’m ready this time.

I’ve never talked about it but I had a bit of a traumatic experience trying to adopt a rescue dog years ago. I jumped in too quickly and had a commitment freak out and decided that the timing wasn’t right and I wasn’t ready. The dog went to another lovely home. Maybe I didn’t give it enough time, who knows but I know that my situation is very different now and that experience taught me enough to know what I would be getting into this time around. This may surprise you but I absolutely melt at the sight of a Maltipoo. I think maybe now I would be ready to adopt a dog though, I’m more settled in my life and I think it would just be the perfect timing. I’ve even spent most of my evenings now looking up what needs to be done to help look after a dog as well, so I feel more than ready! I just want to spoil them and take them to places like angie’s pet spa! All I care about is taking a rescue dog and giving them a loving home. So I’ll let you know in the future if this ever happens! Who knows, if it goes well, I may even get a second one! Once I have a few burning questions answered and out of the way – like what is the best dog bed for two dogs? – I’m sure welcoming two dogs into my home will be a great experience.

It’s been over two years since I’ve had a real adventure of a holiday and that’s like a lifetime for me. I can feel the wanderlust creepin’ up and I’ve been dreaming of a California roadtrip. What’s the next destination on your list?

I hope you all have a wonderful week! There may be some radio silence from me since I’ll be spending full days at the One of a Kinda show but you can always keep in touch via Instagram.

  1. I recently adopted a lab mix that was a complete and utter destructive terror for about a month, and I seriously thought about re-homing her. I even scheduled an appointment to do so! I ended up canceling the appointment, and she has become a member of the family. I’ve been far more active since adopting her, and I have no regrets.

    • Thanks Margaret! I didn’t realize the issue was out yet. I can’t wait to see it in print and definitely can’t wait until the weather warms up to enjoy the patio.
