If tech nerds were like chicken wings I would say that I’m mild-medium heat. The nature of my job kinda forces me to know about what’s going on but I wouldn’t say that I’m on the cutting edge or know what the upcoming latest and greatest piece of tech is. I do appreciate the conveniences that technology has brought to my life. My god, I don’t know what I would do without my smart phone, aka contact list, aka music player, aka camera, aka notepad, aka GPS, aka photo editor, aka bank teller….well you get the idea.
So full disclosure, I’ve been an Apple person for a long time. I’m generally happy with my products but I wouldn’t say that there isn’t room for improvement or that I’m not open to other brands. I even convinced a friend to get a (pretty battered) second-hand Macbook – she replaced some of the original equipment and still ended up with one for less than the usual retail price! When I was asked if I would like to try the Intel powered Dell Inspiron 13 7000 2-in-1 laptop I said “sure, why not!”. I also don’t usually do straight-up product reviews until recently when I did one for a budget gaming laptop but I genuinely really like this product and wanted to share as I think it has some pretty cool features that you would be interested in. The thing is that there was nothing that was majorly wrong with my previous laptop, other than the fact that the audio was messing up every now and then. I resolve this, I was recommended to look into installing a driver like realtek high definition audio, which did help fix any issues with the audio that I initially had. But because I wanted to focus more on blogging and the creative side of my career, I wanted to find something that accommodated this.
What I would say makes the Intell powered Inspiron unique from many other devices is the 2-in-1 multi purpose functionality. I think it should be called the 4-in-1 because of the 4 different way that it can be viewed. By 2 they mean it’s both a laptop and a tablet. As far as using it as a laptop (photo above), it’s pretty standard with the added touch screen feature, which is great.
Then things start to get different. You can turn the screen allllllllll the way around and it turns into a big ol’ tablet. Emphasis on the big. This is my typical lounging-on-the-couch-surfing-the-net position of preference. As you can see it’s responsive like a tablet or mobile and the content adjusts to the orientation.
The main reason that I was excited to try the Intel powered Dell Inspiron 13 7000 2-in-1 laptop is because of its tent and stand positions. Being a freelance creative I need wayyyyyy more than a resume to apply for a job. I have to have an updated and slick looking portfolio that showcases my creative work. No one really cares about your stats, they want to SEE what you’ve done.
If/when I make it to the interview or meeting step I have to bring along my portfolio so I can flip through it and chat about various aspects. Back in the day we brought printed books but (thankfully) now it’s pretty standard to bring a digital version.
Just recently I brought my iPad to an interview and I really felt that it was too small to properly showcase all my photos. Sure, I could bring my laptop but I find it just a bit awkward and unprofessional to pull out a laptop with evidence of my breakfast on the keyboard. That’s why I was really excited to have a device like this that can fold as a tent (above) or a stand (below) with a 13″ touch screen to really showcase and interact with my work at meetings.
If you’re keeping track, that’s four different positions. How great is that? For me, that’s the big selling feature along with the touch screen option.
You can find all the nerdy tech stuff for the Intel Powered Dell Inspiron 13 7000 2-in-1 laptop here. The new OS is clean, familiar, easy to understand and has a bunch of new features. It’s got all the memory, space, speed, sound that the average user needs thanks to the Intel processor. For me the Inspiron is a welcome addition to my tech family. Next up I’m going to play around with the stylus and have some photo fun.
With a fantastic laptop, you need a great broadband connection to support it. My friend was telling me about the wonderful deal he got on his broadband through Usave.
