There’s an area of my loft that you don’t see much and that’s because I don’t love it. I have this crazy big wall of built-in shelves surrounding a faux fireplace. It’s a pretty awesome feature to have in a big city downtown apartment. This photo is a bit dated as I don’t have the orange chair and I’ve simplified the shelves a bit but it’s still pretty much what it looks like:
As you can see there’s A LOT going on. When I viewed the loft the previous owner had a beautiful collection of large coffee table books displayed on each shelf. I don’t have that many books and I never will. Truthfully I’ve never known what to do with this shelf so I just filled it up with stuff. Ok, that’s no totally true, I have an idea of what I want to do but it requires some demo and a) I don’t know if I want to make the investment and I definitely can’t do it myself or it would’ve been done ages ago, b) I’m afraid of effecting the resale value because although I’m not totally in love with how it is right now I do think that it would be a great selling feature for the majority of people.
The main thing I want to do is remove the row of shelves in the middle. If you take a close look, you’ll see this isn’t as easy as it looks so instead I just stuck a big piece of art on top of the shelves. I know, it’s ugly! Like, really ugly. However, I’ve recently seen that you can print your own pictures onto different styles and wood and I think that pictures on woods may look better than that horrid yellow blob I have now. But, if I do want to pull that shelf out, should I really invest in new art before the transformation? I’m not too sure. I know it’s not amazing but that’s the solution for now. So this post is a long way of saying I’m still not sure what to do with this shelf but I’m sick of looking at that art so I’m going to change things up. A friend recommended some Custom stickable photo tiles and I think they’d look great too. It’s just an idea at the minute though. There are so many options when it comes to wall art!
Here are some of my favourites that I’m considering. As you can see there’s definitely a theme. I’m loving the whole collage look and I naturally gravitate towards colour. If colour is also your thing, websites such as Natural World art prints are great for supplying colourful artwork to liven up any room.

There’s sooooooo many great options on Society6. Honestly you can keep scrolling forever. If you’re looking to freshen things up in the art dept at home or in your work space this is a great time. There’s lots of different display options and you can even get them already framed and free delivery. You know that if you don’t get it framed it will just sit in a tube in the corner for your “to do (never)” list. If they didn’t offer this though, I would have to go with a custom crating company to make sure everything arrived in perfect order. Meanwhile, I’m going for the large gallery size (26″x36″) already framed and free delivery for under $150. You can’t beat that! You don’t need a promo code or anything. Just shop until midnight tonight and get the deal.
Happy art shopping!
