DIY: spring rosette candy jars for Easter

Easter DIY

I’ll be honest, Easter isn’t my favourite DIY holiday. It’s probably because I don’t have little monsters…errr I mean the sweet pitter patter of feet running around doing egg hunts. But when our friend’s at May Arts Ribbon generously offered for us to raid their ribbon selection for our monthly blogger DIY group, I thought I would give it a go. I decided that giving some extra sugar to my friends’ little monsters is what exactly what they needed. Keep reading to see how I made these sweet ribbon rosette candy jars that are both reusable, recyclable and of course delicious.

PLUS there’s 11 more original Easter DIY’s from some of my talented blogger friends.

I’ve always loved the look of ric rac ribbon so I decided to go with the 1/2 inch Ric Rac trim from May Arts. It’s so playful, don’t you think. For this project you’ll need:

• recycled clear glass jars
• spray paint colours of your choice
• 2 yards of ric rac ribbon for each flower
• glue gun
Make sure your jars are washed well. Use baking soda to get rid of any strong food odours. First start off by spray painting your lids the colour of your choice. I happened to find a jar with a yellow lid, bonus! Make sure they’re completely dry before you glue your rosette to them later.

Now I used a thicker ric rac and it was a bit tricky to handle.  I would recommend using a 3/4″ ric rac. Make sure your glue gun is handy and add as many little drops of glue as you need to help you keep the rosette shape as you go. Here’s the step-by-step on how to make your rosette.

You’ll see that the first one will take you the longest but they just get easier and quicker as you keep going. Then you won’t want to stop and end up with a pretty little collection like this.

What’s great with these is that once the candy is gone (and you’re long gone to miss the little monsters coming down from their sugar high) they can be used to keep small treasures or supplies in. Gotta love the double duty DIY projects.
