Good Eats: Chocolate Nutella Tart

Chocolate Nutella Tart Recipe by The Sweet Escape

Chocolate Nutella Tart Recipe by The Sweet Escape“Me?, I don’t like Nutella”, said no one ever.

I grew up in an Italian family so Nutella was basically our version of peanut butter but I’m pretty sure at this point there isn’t anyone out there who hasn’t tried it by the spoonful. Unless of course you’re some monster that has something against delish chocolate hazelnut spreads. Or of course if you’re allergic, then you’re not a monster. There’s a million Nutella recipes out there but this chocolate Nutella tart that I’m going to share is pretty fancy pants. Just be warned that people may either confuse you for a pastry chef or think you’re lying when you tell them that you made it.

This chocolate Nutella tart recipe looks fancy pants but it’s not. You know how you can be sure? There’s only 2 ingredients. Sure, you can make your own dough & chocolate hazelnut spread but then you will have less time to scroll through Instagram or Pinterest for hours on end saving and pinning recipes that look delicious that you’ll probably never make.

Here’s what you need:

• 4 packages of crescent roll dough
• 1 jar of Nutella
• egg wash for top
• 8″ round cake pan or tray

That’s it! But here’s the thing, the ingredient list is short and sweet but the process takes a bit more concentration. Don’t worry, it’s still simple but it’s easier to show that describe so check out this video I made to see how you get this layered tart look:

Don’t worry if you get a little messy with the Nutella because once it’s baked you won’t notice plus it just makes it look a little more rustic. Practice makes perfect with this recipe so the more you make it the quicker and neater you’ll become. You can also experiment and try using puff pastry instead of the crescent roll dough for a different texture.

Chocolate Nutella Tart Recipe by The Sweet Escape Chocolate Nutella Tart Recipe by The Sweet EscapeIt tastes best served warm but it’s also delish if you want to make ahead and serve at room temp. It also travels really well so it’s a great option to bring to a brunch or as a dessert. Nutella is my favourite but you can try so many different fillings – I’m thinking a fruity raspberry jam or a cinnamon sugar one would also taste amazing.
