I know everyone out there is itching to sink their teeth into the holiday madness but I’m still lingering on Fall over here. Plus for our American friends, they still have their big Thanksgiving feast to look forward to. Whether you’re hosting for the big feast or just having an extra special Sunday dinner, this Fall tablescape will knock your guests wool socks off. 

A few weeks ago I was honoured to be asked by the Makeful TV folks to put together DIY Fall tablescape idea to present at the Fall Cottage Life show on their behalf. I do love Fall and styling up tables so I jumped at the opportunity. I immediately thought of my friends at Pottery Barn and knew that after working on this fun Summer tablescape with them that they would be onboard to help me pull together a Fall tablescape look with pieces from their great Fall/Winter collection. Thanks to Pottery Barn for coming through again!

I unfortunately don’t have any photos of my actual presentation at the show but I recreated it at home just to share with you. How nice (and addicted to styling) am I? I’m calling it a modern rustic Fall tablescape.

It leans a bit more on the rustic side but the modern elements are the on-trend Buffalo check plates, the modern and simple flatware and the grey ombre table runner. You may recognize the table runner as a different version of the one I made for Makeful and you can find the video tutorial right over here. Using blacks & grey just add a bit more edge to this look and contrasted the traditional patterned plates and rustic gilt metal chargers. 

Along with the table runner, the other handmade touch to this look is the harvest-theme centrepiece. This one is easy for anyone and it’s super affordable – all you need is some greenery and a few in-season fruit. I simple made a bed with the greenery and laid a few colourful apples and pears on top of it then placed the candle holder in the middle. You can easily swap the fruit for cranberries or pomegranates and the greenery for pine trimmings and it makes for an equally beautiful holiday centrepiece. Stick a leaf with your guests name written in gold on an apple and you have a custom name setting. How about ‘dem apples?!

Mixing and matching is all about playing with colours, patterns and textures. So although the patterns are really different in the plates the red ties them together and the simplicity of one pattern contrasts the complexity of the other. The neutral charger offers a good base to ground them. 

When you put it all together you have a fabulous Fall tablescape to enjoy with your family and friends over a delicious feast. If you’re digging this look, head to Pottery Barn and create it yourself.
