TUNES: what’s on your Shazam?

Do you use the Shazam App? Being a huge music lover, I’m a big fan. Just in case you’re not familiar with it it’s an app that can identify a song by hearing a clip of it. I remember when someone showed me how it worked I thought it was magic. For real. I didn’t know how this little free app could answer all my mystery music questions. Amazing! Like everything else in the fast-moving digital word I now completely take it for granted. God, it’s going to get tough to keep impressing us.

Anyway, I still love it and use it all the time – mostly in my car. There are two reasons I will Shazam, 1) if I hear a new song that I love and want to know who sings it or 2) if I hear an old song that I used to love. In either case I use my Shazam tag list as a reminder of songs or artists that I want to download onto my playlists when I get home.

Here’s the last 5 songs I’ve Shazamed. No filter people. This is the music that got my attention. Did I mention that I’m a huge music lover? That’s music lover, not music snob so I love everything from indie rock bands that no one’s heard of to big pop tunes. My motto when it comes to music is “if you like it, it’s good”.

Umm, holy cow, he’s only 21!

Stay With Me by Sam Smith

This one goes all the way back to last year. It makes me move.

That’s Not My Name by The Ting Tings

Ok, so I admit that unless it’s a pretty little folk singer songwriter song, I’m not really a lyric person – i’m more moved by a good beat or melody. So excuse any dirty lyrics or visuals but you can’t deny that this popular hit makes you M-O-V-E.  I wish my bootie didn’t need explain’n.

Talk Dirty by Jason Derulo feat. 2 Chainz

If you were a teenager in the 90’s you will remember this one. I actually still remember the words. Even singing really fast. Impressed?

Inside Out by Eve 6

Here’s a new discovery that I’m really loving. The percussion player in me loves the beat in the background.

Water Fountain by Tune-Yards

I hope you enjoyed those tunes as much as I do. Or at the very least had a enjoyable little work break.  So what have you Shazamed lately? Please share in the comments section!

  1. My last three tags are Ed Sheeran’s Sing, The War on Drugs’ Red Eyes and London Grammar’s Strong. I usually use it when I want to know what something is… My friend preordered the Sam Smith album and has gotten a few songs early and loves it.

And that Eve 6 song is the perfect example of the 90s!

    • Great tunes! ohhh i can’t wait to get my hands on the Sam Smith CD.
