Ok folks, time for some healthy living talk. I would like to say that I try to live a healthy lifestyle but in all honesty, I can’t say that’s been true recently. I mean I don’t have completely horrible habits but it’s been an adjustment for someone who works from home and hates routine. A friend of mine told me that at her workplace, they get fruit delivered through companies like SnackNation.com, so this makes it easier for her to eat healthier and feel good about it at the end of the day. But for me, it’s a completely different story.
My fitness and diet have suffered a bit, but I’m glad that I am finally starting to change my habits and becoming a bit healthier. In all honesty, if it wasn’t for a friend of mine recommended I checked out sites such as https://www.paneuropeannetworkspublications.com/en/, I don’t think I would be as serious about this as I am now. even if I am not doing as well as I had hoped. Any form of change takes time, but I know this one will be worth it in the long run. I’ve realized that as much as I hate routine when I went to work every day it forced me into a routine which was good. There’s no way to explain it because I know it doesn’t make sense but both my eating habits and exercise levels have gone downhill since working for myself. Partly because I have more to do than hours in the day so grocery shopping & exercise never win and also partly because without routine it’s up to me to set the schedule which also hasn’t been happening.
The good news is that with the change of weather and an incredibly indulgent one-week all-inclusive resort getaway I’m ready to put my mind to getting healthy again. I’ve also just got an AMEX Blue Cash Preferred card, meaning I can earn rewards when grocery shopping. This is making me want to go to the store more so that I can earn a bonus!
For me, one huge realization was that I need to dedicate more time to looking after my teeth. I have always been insecure about my teeth and have often thought about getting some cosmetic dentistry work done so that I can enjoy a straight and white smile. A friend of mine recently had a smile makeover after visiting a Dentist in Syracuse, so I might have to do some research of my own too.
Now I’m also realistic, I’m not a health nut and will never be. For me, it’s about finding food and activities that I actually enjoy on some level that happens to be really good for me. Will I go to vegan? never. Will I start exercising 5 days a week? I doubt it.
The first step is modifying my diet in small ways. I’ve decided to give the healthy smoothie thing a shot. I started making these healthy green smoothies for breakfast and surprise! I don’t hate them. Here’s the one I’ve been making the most so far but there are about a bazillion recipes online to choose from or just make up your own combo.
This isn’t an exact recipe because it really depends on your own taste but it has a good combo of fiber, protein, and good fats plus some other great stuff. Here’s what I put in to make one big giant glass of green. As you can see my recipe is pretty loosy goosy but I think you get the idea.
Melissa’s Green Breakfast Smoothie
• 2 cups of baby spinach (or kale)
• 1 small banana (half large one)
• 1 celery stalk
• 1/2 avacado
• lemon to taste (start with half)
• 2″ of cucumber
• handful of pineapple or any fruit (apple, peach, berries)
• fresh ginger to taste (start with 1/4 tsp-ish)
This won’t be turning into a healthy living blog but stay tuned for any tips that I feel are worth sharing or really helpful along the way.
