Do you remember last fall I worked on one of my all-time fave projects – a video for Kendall-Jackson Wines that involved styling a summer dinner at dusk scene? Yeah it was as pretty as it looked. Ok maybe there were a few mosquitos but who’s counting. Thankfully, we were able to control this situation, as if there were any more, then we may have needed to consider getting in touch with a pest control company. Preferably one that is similar to these Ohio terminix experts, as my friend used them last year, before a very important house party. And it’s fair to say, you wouldn’t have even noticed that there was a problem in the first place. Luckily for us, there was only a couple so we had enough control over them ourselves to ensure that they stayed nowhere near our party.
Well I’m super excited to finnnalllllyyyy share all the photos from that day with you. While we were there shooting, Maya (the photographer) and I decided it would be great to capture some beautiful still shots. They were suppose to appear in a magazine which is why I wasn’t able to share them earlier but unfortunately that fell through (no comment) which means more pretty for you blog readers.
My job for this beauty was styling and I loved every minute of it. I had complete creative freedom (thanks best client ever!) to bring this outdoor Summer dinner party to life. My plan was to *gasp! not use any vintage and keep things modern and simple with the flowers and food acting as the pops of colour. I know this is not professional or helpful to those with questions but I rarely have much of a plan when I’m styling. I kinda wander into a store or flower shop and just know what works when I see it.
I found these amazing chairs on Kijiji for $50 each, yup that’s right. And of course you know that I couldn’t resist adding an element of DIY. I had been dying to try this macrame chair hanger idea for ages. The pop of fresh flowers are the absolute perfect way to finish off the look. You may notice that I now have these chair hangers available in the Sweet Escape Occasions Etsy shop.
The table top elements were mostly from Crate & Barrel, West Elm and Anthropologie but I’m afraid they were from last Fall although some of the items such as the white candle holders, vases, cutlery and plates are part of their regular stock so if you see something you like, check it out.
If you’re into the food part of hosting an outdoor Summer dinner party then you’ll want to check out some of these delish recipes prepared by Melanie Stuparyk. Head over to the original post on the Kendall-Jackson Wine blog for the recipes.
As you can see, it was a pretty perfect scene. And yes, we did eat all the props. Cheers to outdoor Summer dinner parties!
