It’s that time of year, gearing up for the holidays! Here in Canada we’ve already celebrated Thanksgiving but for all of you South of the border Thanksgiving is more of a combo deal with the holidays. One of my favourite things in the world is dreaming up table settings. It’s true. So I came up with a modern take on a festive table that can be used for either Thanksgiving or the holidays. I also have an adorable and crazy easy DIY name setting to add a little handmade touch. How’s that for a good deal?!?
My objective for this table setting was to come up with something that was festive but not overly “harvesty” or “holly jolly”. I believe in being able to reuse or mix and match your table setting elements all year for various occasions which is hard to do when it looks like the Pioneers or Santa threw a party on your table. Don’t get me wrong, if that’s your thing then go for it! I just like a little more subtly and unexpected design combos.
The starting point and main inspiration for this setting was the buffalo check table runner. And by table runner I mean going to the fabric store and buying buffalo check fabric and ripping it up. Literally, I just ripped it to the size I wanted and left the edges frayed for a more casual (and easier..duh) look. From there I stuck with a mostly black palette (so unlike me!) with copper accents and some simple greenery. The teal candles are a little pop of colour that almost clashes with the greenery but in a good way. You can play around with different candle colours or stick with white.
You know I can’t resist adding a DIY element. These rosemary wreath name settings are super easy and adorable. They add a formal touch to your event and if you just can’t help yourself, they also let you play match-maker. But I didn’t give you that idea. It’s as simple as making a wreath using rosemary and a little floral wire then using some ribbon and a name tag to hide the wire and finish them off. Easy! It’s also another opportunity to add some colour to your table if you want to change the ribbon up.
If you’re into this look and want to try it at home this season then you’re in luck. We collaborated with our friends at Kendall-Jackson Wines and Wild & Light Studio to put together this quick video showing you how to pull this look together. Take a peek!
A dinner party is most definitely not complete without the wine. Like seriously! Kendall-Jackson’s Vintner’s Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon is my go-to crowd pleaser.
